Fun fact: for decades, human beings have been procrastinating. In reality, the topic is so timeless that ancient Greek thinkers such as Socrates and Aristotle created a term to characterise this form of behaviour: Akrasia.

In the olden times, akrasia was defined as acting against your own opinions and decisions. Akrasia is procrastination or an inadequacy of control over yourself.

Here is the procrastination cycle -

Now, we all want to stop the habit of procrastinating things, don’t we? Well, here are some tips on how to stop delaying your deadlines!

  • Turn off your phone and device, unless you need to work on it.

    • Distractions do not help in trying to focus and finish your tasks. Devices are really entertaining for sure, and as we can do whatever we want on them, we tend to distract ourselves with things which we can do later on. It is better to keep them aside while trying to finish your work.

  • Break down your tasks into smaller bits.

    • This helps to get a more clear view on what exactly you have to do in the task. For example, you have to finish a school assignment but it’s just too much work! Break it down into small bits to finish it neatly and quickly.

  • Do the easiest tasks first and do the challenging ones in the end.

    • Easy tasks are a warm up activity for your brain to later move on to challenging ones. Like in sports, you need to warm up before you play sports or you will injure yourself. Same way, your focus and attention to your task is present but if you do the opposite, high chances of getting injured!
